Being a participant for the second time in the contest, this year, the company made a clean sweep bagging the 1st position in all the four entry categories of the contest: Best Weed-free lawns Best ornamental plants Best hedges and flower plants A special award for maintaining the Best Vegetable and Herbal garden. The Mysore Horticultural Society 'Green Campus Garden' award is a prestigious competition that is held every year to adjudge the best maintained gardens and green spaces within the premises of organizations across Bangalore. Last year, Tesco HSC got the 1st prize in the Best Ornamental Plants category, while this year saw tough competition with close to 48 organizations participating in the contest. They were evaluated on various parameters such as maintenance, layout of the greens, type of manure (organic/ inorganic) used, health and condition of the plants, method of trimming amongst other factors such as beauty, design/layout etc. Apart from having an award winning green campus, Tesco HSC has a number of environmental friendly initiatives like solar water heating in the kitchen and gym, motion sensing lights in conference rooms, power smart software for all desktops, LED lightings, catalytic converter for generators, etc. They installed a 400W windmill to reduce the company's annual power consumption The company also has 5% reduction in water supplies from external sources due to an efficient water recycling system for irrigation..
